Job description

Caregiving for an elderly couple (95 and 96 years old) in the village of Oberndorf-Altoberndorf, Germany. Both have a dependency level of 3. The gentleman experienced a stroke in December 2025, suffers from dementia, has limited short-term memory, and his speech is unclear. He is physically slowed but can walk independently without aids and usually goes to the toilet by himself. Occasional night assistance is required. He has diabetes, which is stabilized with medication, and has only twenty percent vision in one eye. His wife has mild dementia, weakening short-term memory, and limited hand motor skills. She moves around the house using a commode chair, mostly manages transfers with assistance, but walking is no longer possible. Outside, she is mobile in a wheelchair. She has urinary incontinence. Hygiene is performed while sitting in the kitchen, as the bathroom is upstairs. A nursing service comes to assist with personal hygiene. The caregiver will be responsible for complete assistance with dressing, hygiene, and transfers for both seniors, with the gentleman being partially independent in some tasks. Both eat independently, but meals need to be cut into smaller pieces, and sufficient hydration must be monitored. The role includes providing companionship, taking walks with the lady in the wheelchair, viewing photographs, or engaging in simple games. The seniors are calm, friendly, and cooperative. Household duties include cooking, regular cleaning, laundry, shopping, and small errands. The house is older, simply furnished, without a dishwasher, and has a wood stove, so preparing wood for heating, which is stored in the house, is necessary. Good knowledge of German and the ability to adapt to simpler living conditions are required. Smoking is allowed only outside the house. A driver's license is not required. Accommodation is provided in a separate, furnished room, and internet access will be available.

Frequently asked Questions - Carers

Do you charge fees?

You don't pay our employment agency anything at all. We believe it is not right to charge people money in order to enable them to work, and so we offer assistance in finding job positions completely free of charge.

Do I have to be self-employed?

Most job positions in Germany are based on Slovak/Czech trade licenses, though employment contracts are possible with some families. In Switzerland, work is conducted under Swiss employment contracts.

Do I need a nursing course for a carer job?

No, completing a caregiving course is not necessary for most job positions; however, it is important to have at least some experience from a home environment.

How long will it take you to find my family?

Finding a family is a highly individual matter for each applicant, and therefore there is no exact timeframe for when we will find you a family with whom you will be mutually compatible. In some cases, we are able to arrange work within a few days; in other instances, the waiting period can be up to a month. For families in Switzerland, due to high demand, the wait may extend to two months.

Can you help me travel? Who pays for the trip?

If you are interested, we can arrange transportation for you. We have long-term partnerships with transport companies that our caregivers happily use repeatedly. Of course, you can also choose another transportation method that you prefer. The caregiver pays for the journey themselves, with the family in Germany contributing €150-200 towards it, and in Switzerland 380 CHF.

How long are rotations usually?

In Germany, the standard length of a work period is 4 to 6 weeks, while in Switzerland it's 2 months. In the case of temporary replacements, the periods are shorter.

What is the salary and what does it depend on?

The salary range in Germany is between €1200 and €2200 per month on a trade license. Compensation depends on the required language and other skills, the client's health condition, and whether care is provided for an individual or a married couple. In Switzerland, the salary ranges from 2460 to 2500 CHF per month on a Swiss employment contract.

What level of German do I need to have for a carer job?

In Germany, an intermediate to good knowledge of German is most commonly required, while some families are satisfied with basic knowledge and/or require knowledge of another language, such as Czech or Russian. Families in Switzerland require good knowledge of German, though sometimes an upper-intermediate level is sufficient.

Do you also offer work for male carers?

Yes, we have been successfully placing male caregivers in families as well.
